Well, first of all, ticos are called the people that are living in Costa Rica.
In our country football is the most important thing even though we have a horrible football team. Football is the sport that everyone knows. We think our national football team is the best of Centro America, but that’s a lie. Of course we win a lot of matches against all of them but here the problem is that we treat the football players as The Best…
We are Xenophobic. We hate the “nicas” well not all of ticos but it’s true. We make a lot of jokes of them. Nicas are ding jobs that not every tico made, like house made. Its like normal to see a nica as a house made.
We have one unique expression that almost everyone uses. The “pura vida” phrase means a lot for us. It could be like “HI” or “How are you doing”… Also it’s the word “mae”. For us Mae means like “hey man” or “Hi”. We use a lot that word. Mae it’s just like bro in the USA. Almost everyone uses those expressions in order to communicate.
We are always complaining of EVERYTHING and instead of doing something we just blame other people.
Also we have like a tradition of being late. We are always being late for EVERYTHING! For example: IF you get an invitation to a party in the invitation will say: starts at 8 pm. Even though you know people will arrive at 9. That’s the idea.
We have our traditional food like the Gallo Pinto or Casado. Gallo Pinto it’s the mix of rice and beans. Casado it’s a dish with your favorite type of meat with rice, beans and salads.
We are a great contry but we would be a lot much better if we change drastically our habits.
