Tico Customs by Gloriana

Tico Costums

The Word “tico” identifies as costaricans because we use tico at the end of the words for example: poquitico, chiquitico…

Ticos use a lot of words that just ticos can understand like: carajadas, chapulín, guava, jacha,al chile…

The most typical dish in Costa Rica is “Gallo Pinto” which is f a mixture of white rice and black or red beans. For lunch or dinner also typical is a “Casado” which is a plate of white rice, beans, salad, and chicken, fish, or beef with a natural fruit drink.

A common term is the word “Mae” this is a term used to refer in general to a person. For example: Pura Vida mae!

Ticos love parties and weekends and as such the majority of businesses are closed Saturdays and Sundays. Throughout the country there are a number of different festive activities during the year for example in Puntarenas at the end of February a carnival is celebrated. Also night life in San José abounds due to the numerous choices of bars, restaurants, and discotheques.

IMAGINE by Peggy

Volleyball&Guns&Sta.Cruz by Peggy

From my point of view, an adventure is every single experience we live, and therefore, I would like to write about my trip to Santa Cruz. Last year, I had the chance to go to Guanacaste with some friends, the main purpose of going was cause of a volleyball game, which was amazing. We stayed in Guanacaste for two days in a high school's classroom with many other schools too, each of them, having their own classroom.
We arrived in the afty, while others were having lunch. Then, the games started at 5 or 6 o'clock. In the game, we were having such a great time but then, I got hurt. Just my luck!
Next, Saint Francis College's music band was going to play a few songs and so we sat to listen. While listening, we were taking several photos, similar to the one I posted...
Later on, they were telling us to go to bed, but we disagreed since we were still full of energy and wanting to do more. Still, they insisted and so we gave up. Obviously, we did not give up that easily, we stayed all night talking. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, we heard a gun! Someone came into the school... At that time, I was sound sleep so I did not hear it at all. In the morning, I was told what had happened.
